GPI Atlantic Activities in the Kingdom of Bhutan

New Development Paradigm

GPI Atlantic assisted in the organisation of a major meeting hosted by the Royal Government of Bhutan at the United Nations on 2nd April, 2012, to launch a new holistic development paradigm with wellbeing and happiness as its goal and with ecological sustainability, fair distribution, and efficient resource use as its key conditions. The meeting was attended by 800 distinguished participants and addressed by the President of Costa Rica, Prime Minister of Bhutan, United Nations Secretary-General, and top government, scholarly, civil society, and spiritual leaders.

The new development paradigm was promoted at the Rio + 20 Earth Summit, and an expert Working Group is now being formed to elaborate the details of the new system over the next two years for presentation to the 68th and 69th Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 and 2014.
