In line with the Royal Government of Bhutan’s intent to bring GNH fully into the country’s education system, GPI Atlantic organized a major international workshop in Thimphu, Bhutan, in December 2009, bringing together top educators and scholars from 16 countries in the fields of holistic education, contemplative education, sustainability education, Indigenous knowledge, and critical thinking, for consultations with Bhutanese educators and government officials. GPI Atlantic also helped organize three week-long training sessions in January-February 2010 for all Bhutan’s school principals, district education officers, teachers college lecturers and education officials in the new methods and approaches. GPI Atlantic subsequently conducted a survey of all Bhutanese school principals to provide baseline data for the transition to a GNH-based education system.
Please see the proceedings of the week-long December 2009 international Educating for GNH workshop, documentation prepared for the principals’ workshops (Honorable Prime Minister's opening statement, excerpt from the Honorable Prime Minister's letter, the vision statement, and the qualities of a graduate), and GPI Atlantic’s report on the principals’ survey prepared by senior GPI Atlantic researcher Karen Hayward.
